Thank You for the Music

Updated: Jun 4, 2023

The Winner Takes It All. Chiquitita. Money, Money, Money are some of the songs that all generations know and can sing along to. When we thought that one of the biggest pop groups, ABBA, had already everything said and done, they finally reunited after nearly 40 years and will be releasing their new album ‘Voyage’ already this Friday!

Most of us, especially if you were born in the 2000s just like me, will most likely associate them with the Mamma Mia movie, which counts with the participation of Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan among others or with the Tik Toks where people crawl up beaches reenacting Amanda Seyfried’s Mamma Mia beach scene to the sound of ‘Lay All Your Love on Me’.

But the songs from the Swedish pop band were truly a phenomenon in the 70s and 80s. ‘Waterloo’ ensured the band the victory of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. ‘Dancing Queen’ remains until today one of the most played songs at parties. Overall, the band had more than 370 million records sold worldwide, impressing right?

Notably, ABBA’s music has always remained an inspiration and influence for artists until today, as their incredible, iconic and catchy songs have shaped pop music’s progress since the 70s. Madonna, Taylor Swift and even The Weeknd have found inspiration in the songs of ABBA. I am pretty sure that most of us have listened at least once to the song ‘Hung Up’ from Madonna, this song includes the instrumental of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ from ABBA.

Earlier in August, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad posted some mysterious hints on social media and got so the attention of the world.

On 2 September they announced that they reunited and that they would come back not only with a new album named ‘Voyage’ but also with a new live show experience, which will take place in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London next year. But there is much more that makes this epic come-back even more fascinating! The Swedish pop band will appear in avatar mode, meaning that the spectators will be able to be part of a revolutionary and very authentic concert. This was also said by the band itself, who say that it will be a concert that combines the old and the new, the young and the not-so-young.

Even though the band already confirmed that after the ‘Voyage’ era they will retire, we will still embark on this ‘Voyage’ by listening to the songs ‘Just a Notion’ ‘I Still Have Faith in You’ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’ until the release of their new music on Friday!
